Alright so the cat’s out of the bag ya’ll. It’s not really coffee. BUT, hear me out. If you’re looking for a bold, robust flavor to give your mind and body that break that it’s desperately in need of—look no further peeps! This tea has been giving me all of the coffee feels daily along with an insane amount of nutrients my body wants/needs to start my day on the right foot.

My coffee obsession started in college. Like you and the majority of society, coffee is a staple. It’s friggen cute and aesthetically pleasing in mostly every Insta-foody photo you see. A rise and shine, drink of the Gods. A Heaven sent answer to your prayer for more energy and focus. “Felt super cute might CRASH hard later”. Anyone else feeling like they’re just treading water without that ole cup of joe? Then motherhood happened and that afternoon second cup just became a means of survival, because #momlife is REAL ya’ll.

My body was dependent, my mind was dependent and my gut was wrecked.

I needed to figure it all out and kept going through different foods eliminating certain things I thought might be the cause for my overwhelming, uneasy stomach. Food just wasn’t sitting right like it used to, and the coffee actually wasn’t “working” the way it used to for my energy. I was at a huge loss and it was affecting my family. As a wife, mother, homemaker I have lots of heart work to get done daily and it was starting to become truly impossible to keep up with a smile on my face. I needed a change.

the facts:

  • Coffee contains more than 1500 chemical components including phenolic polymers, polysaccharides, minerals, caffeine, and chlorogenic acid

  • Caffiene stops a brain chemical known as adenosine having an effect. Normally, adenosine helps slow down reactions in the body. As caffeine effectively stops adenosine latching onto cells, it means that when we drink it our body is constantly on the accelerator, not the brake.

    Then within a few hours of stopping drinking coffee, the withdrawal effects start to kick in. In some cases, they can even cause flu-like symptoms.

    Our body experiences a flood of adenosine, leading to fatigue. Many will also experience a dull headache. This is because caffeine narrows blood vessels in the brain, so when we stop drinking it, there is an increase in blood flow, which triggers a headache.

Alkaline Coffee Recipe

Alkaline “coffee” recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 tsp Nettle

  • 1/4 tsp Burdock Root

  • 1/4 tsp Yellow Dock

  • 1/4 tsp Clove

  • 1/2 tsp Roasted Dandelion Root

  • 1/4 tsp Organic Cacao

  • Maple Syrup to taste

    Top with frothed walnut milk

  • 1/3 cup Homemade Alkaline Walnut Milk

Instructions:

  1. Brew pot of Distilled Water

  2. Combine all ingredients and steep your tea…I mean, “coffee”. heh.

  3. Top your magical dupe of a coffee with your delicious homemade Walnut Milk

  4. Enjoy!
